In this final episode of the Scammers and Their Scams series, Darren Gallop discusses the AI Voice Scam. The AI Voice Scam uses artificial intelligence-based voice synthesizers to mimic the voice of someone the victim knows, such as a family member or business associate. Scammers then attempt to extract money or sensitive information by creating the illusion of authenticity.
Darren shares recent incidents in Canada and the US, where victims were targeted by scammers using AI-generated voices. The technology behind these scams has improved significantly, and only a few seconds of audio are required to create convincing voice replicas. Darren demonstrates the capabilities of AI voice synthesizers by playing a few clips.
He advises listeners to be vigilant and cautious when receiving unsolicited phone calls and to be aware of the potential for AI voice scams. This episode concludes the Scammers and Their Scams series.
